Srinagar, Nov 15: Terming University of Kashmir as the highest podium of learning Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad has urged the students to take active part in social causes and try to strike a balance between profession and society. Speaking during the annual day function of Islamic Relief and Research Trust Kashmir Prof Talat said “students are the pillars to mould society and onus lies on them to carry forward the mission which could bring the betterment of the society.” Referring to Mir Behri adapted by KU he said KU is making every effort to uplift this area by catering standard education to the inmates and good hygienic condition so as to assure every possible support to the downtrodden of the area.” While appreciating the work carried out by some medicos and academicians in the field of social service, Prof Talat said “people who quietly execute their work for the betterment of society gets recognized one day and society must support them in their genuine cause.” Justice (Retd) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, who was the chief guest on the occasion, while addressing the students said that orphanage and widowhood are the serious issues which the society is confronted with at present. “As per reports Valley has nearly 2.14 lakh orphans and it is the utter responsibility of the society to take proactive stand and support these children as they are also a part of our society,” he said. While lauding the efforts of the orphanages and other NGOs he said these organizations are playing a commendable role to cater the need of orphans, facilitate their study and settle adult orphan women and widows. Founder of the Islamic Relief and Research Trust Kashmir Advocate Abdul Rashid Hanjura said people should come forward to help these organizations. Earlier, President of the Organization Dr. Naseem Rafiabadi in his welcome address said people are showing reluctance in terms of Zakat and only 0.2 percent people are showing inclination towards this mandatory Islamic pillar of Zakat. On the occasion five marriage kits along with cheques were also disbursed among the beneficiaries and other five cheques worth Rs.5000- 10000 were also distributed among various meritorious students who are pursuing education in various field. Two students of Dar-Ul- Ahsan also received economic assistance on the occasion. On the occasion felicitation awards were given to Prof. Bashir Ahmad Dabla, Dr. Ajaz Aziz (Oncologist) SKIMS, Ashiq Kashmiri and Dr. Syed Faz-ul-lah for their meritorious contribution towards the society by the organization. |
