‘We’re Not Liars; Our Demands Are Genuine’ Sumit Bhargav Rajouri, Nov 19: The deadlock between the students of Engineering and Technology College of the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) here sees no end, with students continuing to boycott their classes for the fifth straight day Monday. A meeting to ‘sort out all issues’ today failed to reach consensus, thus aggravating the situation on the campus. The students are demanding supplementary examination for which they had approached the varsity administration. “We got no response from the authorities,” the protesting students told Greater Kashmir, adding, “With the result, we were forced to go on indefinite strike.” The students are on strike from past Thursday. The students are also demanding ‘greater transparency’ in examinations and campus recruitments and placements. According to sources, the student-administration tussle intensified with a statement by the varsity Registrar Rashid Choudhary who had stated that the students were “lying” with regard to their demands. The students flayed the statement, saying “it doesn’t behoove the top official of University to make such comments, especially to call the students as liars.” Meanwhile, the students continued to boycott the classes today and held protest demonstration. They raised slogans against the University authorities, accusing them of failing to address their genuine grievances. Sources said the varsity administration today held a meeting with the protesting students. The meeting, however, failed to reach a consensus in the wake of a walkout staged by the students following “non-serious attitude of officials to address their problems.” “Unless our demands are not fulfilled, we will continue with our strike,” they said.
